
Hypnotherapy can help you with childbirth fears and worries before the birth and allow you to feel more in control during labour itself. A programme of 3 sessions (very similar to hypnobirthing) incorporates positive visualisation and suggestions whilst in hypnosis to encourage relaxation and alter your perception of the birth. Expectant mums are also taught self hypnosis techniques – easier to master than you may think! To support the process 4 CD’s are provided for a calmer childbirth experience.
Ideally the programme starts at week 34 but if you have left it late in your pregnancy to consider the option of hypnotherapy
and do not have time to schedule the whole programme of sessions before
your baby’s birth, then even one or two sessions of the relaxed
childbirth programme will be of benefit to you.
Partners are welcome to attend one of the sessions for joint relaxation; helping them to feel part of the process (as often fathers feel excluded or of no help during labour).

Throughout the entire experience I can honestly say that my husband, baby and I remained calm. My husband and I chatted throughout the entire labour, listened to Radio 1 (and even got a shout out on one of the early morning shows whilst I was having contractions!) and felt able to deal with everything.
I had 3 “stretch and sweeps” in the run up to labour plus then internal examinations every couple of hours in labour. I was nervous about the stretch and sweeps as several people had told me they were painful. I can honestly say that I never once experienced pain during any internal examination as I used the hypnotherapy skills to relax my body and mind. I took myself off using the countdown method prescribed by Emily and it helped enormously.
The main thing for me was a birth which resulted in a healthy baby and mum and we got both - I feel incredibly lucky and I truly believe that the hypnotherapy did wonders for us and almost 5 months down the line, I feel able to deal with things.
